\n Carleton Celebrates Community Engagement Month\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Carleton University is celebrating its first Community Engagement Month this October. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hosted by the <\/span>Centre for Community Engagement<\/span><\/a>, the month will commemorate community engagement at Carleton, while spreading awareness of the variety of opportunities to learn, grow and build respectful and reciprocal relationships with communities. The month will lead up to the launch of Carleton\u2019s inaugural <\/span>Strategic Plan for Community Engagement (SP4CE),<\/span><\/a> which supports the value and practice of community engagement, a priority highlighted in Carleton\u2019s <\/span>Strategic Integrated Plan<\/span><\/a>.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the most recent <\/span>Message from the President<\/span><\/a>, Benoit-Antoine Bacon spoke to the launch of the strategy.<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis year marks <\/span>Carleton’s 80th anniversary<\/span><\/a> and it’s an opportunity to reflect on our roots and how the institution was founded in 1942 \u2018for the community, by the community,\u2019\u201d he wrote. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is therefore timely that we are collectively engaged in the development of our inaugural Strategic Plan for Community Engagement that aims to take a holistic view of all our community engagement initiatives so that we can better support our tremendous grassroots engagement.\u201d<\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are a number of events set to take place over the month, with a theme assigned to each week. More information is available below. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Week One \u2013 Student Experience <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Student Community Engagement Opportunities Fair<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oct. 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<\/em>
\nUniversity Centre Galleria (4th floor University Centre), Carleton University<\/em>
\nWho can attend: Carleton students, faculty, contract instructors, staff and community members <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students and community members are invited to learn about the variety of ways to engage with communities, locally and abroad. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campus to Community Day<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oct. 4, 12 to 4 p.m.<\/em>
\nOttawa Mission, 35 Waller St.<\/em>
\nWho can attend: Carleton students<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carleton students are invited to join their peers for a half day of volunteering at the Ottawa Mission, serving meals and helping with post-meal clean up. <\/span>Registration is required<\/span><\/a>. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Week Two \u2013 Research<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Working Together: Best Practices and Future Directions in Community Partnership Research <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty, staff, students and community members are welcome to join this event. Learn about the best practices in community-based partnership research, network with other practitioners, and contribute to a strategy for partnered search excellence at Carleton. <\/span>Registration is required<\/span><\/a>. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Week Three \u2013 Teaching & Learning<\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Community Engaged Learning: Creating Pathways to Opening Doors <\/span><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oct. 18 and 19, 9 to 11 a.m.<\/em>

\nWho can attend: Community members, Carleton students, faculty, contract instructors and staff<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hear from Carleton faculty members on how they help facilitate invaluable community connections through educational opportunities. Registration will be required, register for Oct. 18<\/a> and\/or Oct. 19<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
