Konrad Von Finkenstein (Bachelor of Arts, 1967 and Bachelor of Arts Honours, 1968), <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/secretariat\/boardofgovernors\/people\/konrad-von-finckenstein\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">current member of Carleton&#8217;s Board of Governors<\/a>, and consultant on communications and competition issues, was named a member of the Order of Canada for &#8220;his distinguished and multifaceted career in law and federal public service.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bill Namagoose, Executive Director of the Cree Nation Government, Chair of the First National Bank of Canada, and <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.carleton.ca\/2022\/carleton-university-to-bestow-seven-honorary-degrees-at-first-in-person-convocation-since-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recipient of a Carleton honorary doctorate in 2022<\/a>, was named a member of the Order of Canada for &#8220;outstanding contributions to the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee over a period spanning nearly 40 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheila Block, alumna (Bachelor of Arts Honours, 1969), senior trial and appellate counsel and one of the most recognized litigators in Canada, was named a member of the Order of Canada for &#8220;her trailblazing contributions to law in Canada and abroad, and for her wide-ranging advocacy.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feridun Hamdullahpur, a former Provost and Vice-President, Research and International at Carleton and former President and Vice-Chancellor at the University of Waterloo, was named a member of the Order of Canada for &#8220;his groundbreaking research in mechanical and mechatronics engineering and for his visionary leadership in academia.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marc Mayer, a Canadian arts manager and advisor and former Carleton student, was named a member of the Order of Canada for &#8220;his contributions to fine art as an administrator and curator, both in Canada and worldwide.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Gen. Mary Simon announced the 99 new appointments to the Order of Canada on Dec. 29, 2022. Recipients will be invested at a ceremony to be held in early 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"about-the-order-of-canada\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Order of Canada<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 1967 by Queen Elizabeth, the Order of Canada is the pillar of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gg.ca\/en\/honours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canadian honours system<\/a>. Becoming a member recognizes outstanding contributions at the local or regional level or in a special field of activity.
