This sponsored a 3 month research fellowship at Campus Biotech Neurology Imaging Cognition Lab at University of Geneva.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2017, Derrick won the award for Best Clinical Research from the Ottawa Royal&#8217;s Institute of Mental Health Research.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theroyal.ca\/research\/young-researchers\/\">http:\/\/www.theroyal.ca\/research\/young-researchers\/\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In March 2017, Derrick was a winner of Carleton&#8217;s 3 Minute Thesis for his tDCS research in children.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Yrr3wiYRQkg\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Yrr3wiYRQkg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In June 2016, Derrick received a certificate for\u00a0Positron Emission Tomography from\u00a0McGill University \u2013 Montreal Neurological Institute \u2013 Brain Imaging Centre.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2015, Derrick received a certificate for Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Neuropsychiatric Research from Harvard Medical School &#8212; Beth\u00a0Israel Deaconess Medical Centre \u2013 Berenson-Allen Centre for Noninvasive Brain Stimulation with Dr. Pascual-Leone and Dr. Fregni.<\/p>\n<p>From 2014-2017 Derrick has been a three time recipient of the Ontario Graduate Award for Students Research in Dementia.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #990000;\">Current Research<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 18px;\" width=\"1375\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>PhD Thesis (Neuroscience) &#8211; Investigating the use of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation as a Neuropsychiatric Treatment using Computational Multivariate Electrophysiological Biomarker Modelling <\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table class=\"cutable\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"4\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Masters Thesis (Neuroscience) &#8211; Transcranial direct current stimulation: A safety study in children and adolescents.\u00a0<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Undergraduate Thesis (Cognitive Science) &#8211; \u00a0Visual perception-imagery interaction: investigating individual differences in conditions for priming and Perky effects with ERPs.<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Derrick\u2019s primary research focus\u00a0is in the use of transcranial direct current stimulation for the treatment of neuropsychiatric and neurological conditions; for which he has obtained formal certification from Harvard Medical School. He also utilizes other electroneurophysiological techniques\u00a0such as electroencephalography, quantitative electroencephalography, and event related potentials for measurements and diagnostics. Derrick\u2019s number one goal\u00a0is to forward the efficacy of tDCS as a treatment aid for\u00a0neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, and to make it as widespread a technique as possible; in both experimental and clinical settings. Other than his position as a Senior lab member in the NICER Lab, Derrick is also a member of the Mental Health Research Team at\u00a0the Children&#8217;s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute in the Neuropsychiatric Laboratory. Further to Derrick&#8217;s clinical interests, he is the Research Director (and a qEEG technician + Neurofeedback Therapist) at a community medical practice here in Ottawa.
