Prior to travelling <\/strong>to the field, you must review the Carleton University Field Safety Guidelines <\/strong>and complete a Field Activity Safety Plan.  <\/strong>See https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ehs\/field-safety\/<\/a> for details. Please also review the Safety<\/a> pages of this website for some additional planning considerations that are especially important in remote northern environments (training, emergency communication and insurance issues).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please discuss all relevant field safety considerations with your supervisor well in advance of completing your field safety form or making travel plans. Numerous excursions to the same location(s) can be listed on one form and only one form is required per field project (which may involve multiple NSTP funded students).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note that NSTP funding will not be released until the Field Safety Form has been approved.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR NSTP FUNDING FOR NEXT FISCAL YEAR
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are applying for NSTP funding for the upcoming fiscal year you are required to complete a draft version<\/em> of the Field Activity Safety Plan <\/strong>(available here<\/a>) by October 26, 2026<\/strong> (the same deadline as for NSTP applications<\/a>).  The draft Field Activity Safety Plan <\/strong> must be submitted directly by email to<\/strong> the Northern Research Committee Chair<\/a>, and it will be returned with feedback along with the announcement of NSTP funding allocations in the following spring.  A final version of the Field Activity Safety Plan <\/strong> must be completed and submitted to the Northern Research Committee Chair<\/a> no later than five days prior to the field trip, or NSTP funding will be withheld<\/strong>.  This version will be up to date and complete. The Northern Research Committee Chair<\/a> can approve this form for NSTP students in lieu of your Unit Chair, if you prefer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE NSTP FUNDING<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your field work is not supported by NSTP it is still important to complete a Field Activity Safety Plan.  <\/strong>Please review the information available at https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ehs\/field-safety\/<\/a>, discuss safety with your supervisor (project PI) and submit your Field Activity Safety Plan<\/strong> to your Department Chair for review and approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
