Her research examines the impact of the \u2018national border effect\u2019 on international trade flows between Canada and the United States. For her dissertation, Karla has developed the most comprehensive dataset to date on Canada-U.S. international trade flows, encompassing trade data between all Canadian provinces and territories and all 50 U.S. states from 2000 to 2020\u2014a significant expansion compared to previous studies, which analyzed a maximum of 10 years of data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karla aims for her research findings to inform and enhance Canadian international trade policy and negotiations, providing valuable insights into the factors influencing trade between Canada and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to her academic work, Karla works as an economist with Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), an agency within the Department of National Defence of the Canadian federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karla is also a passionate advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) across academia and the public sector.
