flexible and individualized plan for students pursuing a Carleton undergraduate degree in a related discipline, such as the Global and International Affairs (BGInS) and Public Affairs and Policy Management (BPAPM)&nbsp;degrees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Accelerated Pathway works in the following way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students in the <strong>third year<\/strong> of their undergraduate program consult with their undergraduate program director as well as NPSIA\u2019s Associate Director (M.A. program) to determine their suitability for the accelerated pathway.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To be eligible to participate in the accelerated pathway, students must have a minimum overall CGPA of A- in their undergraduate program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students accepted into this pathway will take 1.0 credits in NPSIA (INAF) courses in the fourth year of their undergraduate program. Note that these mandatory economics courses are only offered in the Winter term. Please note that the final exam for these courses is \u2018in person.\u2019&nbsp; Students can arrange for distance e-proctoring for a fee.&nbsp; The fee schedule is outlined here:&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/i.carleton.ca\/mec\/exam-services-services-and-late-fees\/\">Exam Services &#8211; [I.e. these courses should provide the economics content for students to advance to intermediate-level (second or third year) university economics courses.]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that any economics courses taken outside of Carleton are subject to review by NPSIA\u2019s Associate Director.&nbsp; Such a letter will temporarily permit Fall term registration. There are <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">two forms of advanced standing<\/strong> \u2013 with the transfer of credit, and without the transfer of credit. Please note that many of NPSIA\u2019s courses have content specific to NPSIA\u2019s international affairs program, so advanced standing is not automatic \u2013 it is considered on a case-by-case basis<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Advanced Standing with Transfer of Credit:<\/strong>&nbsp; As per <a href=\"https:\/\/calendar.carleton.ca\/grad\/gradregulations\/#transferofcredit\">Graduate Studies Regulation 6.1<\/a>, graduate courses completed at another institution or at Carleton University may be accepted, on a case-by-case basis, in partial fulfilment of Carleton&#8217;s degree requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Master&#8217;s candidates may be permitted to transfer the equivalent of up to 40 per cent of their coursework credit requirements on admission. If a Master\u2019s candidate is granted transfer of credit for 40 per cent of their coursework credit requirements, their remaining credits at Carleton must be at the 5000 level and must be INAF courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transfer of Credit will be determined <strong>upon admission<\/strong> by the Office of Graduate Studies on the recommendation of NPSIA. The Graduate Calendar states that INAF students can take 1.5 credits in courses offered outside of NPSIA, with a maximum of 1.0 credits from a single department. The Graduate Calendar states that INAF students can take 1.5 credits in courses offered outside of NPSIA, with a maximum of 1.0 credits from a single department. The letter will outline two options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You may repeat and successfully pass the failed course, should you wish for it to count for credit.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You may replace the failed course with another eligible course. If you select this option, the failed course code and the grade will be listed as \u201cextra to your degree\u201d on your transcript.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When you repeat a course, the attempt with the\u00a0best grade\u00a0will count in the audit and be included in your CGPA calculation. The attempt with the lower grade will be bumped out of your degree and moved to a section of your audit called \u201cCOURSES SET ASIDE\u201d. Once the second language requirement is completed, they can apply for graduation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, students must complete this second language requirement BEFORE their degree completion time limit ends. The degree time limit varies according to student status \u2013 i.e. part-time\/full-time status and number of co-op terms.&nbsp; (See FAQ on Student Status.) Please consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/npsia\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/77\/2025\/02\/NPSIA-Program-Completion-Checklist-Jan-2025.pdf\">program completion checklist.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any courses that were approved to count for degree credit (e.g. non-NPSIA courses) that sit on your audit as \u2018Courses Not Used \u2013 Extra to Degree\u2019 count for degree credit as part of the review of audits for graduation.
