The Centre for Trade Policy and Law<\/strong> (CTPL)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centre for Trade Policy and Law is a joint unit of NPSIA at Carleton University and the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CTPL has the mandate to promote teaching and research in trade policy and law; to promote a greater understanding of trade policy issues and to encourage the development of trade policy professionals. Assistantships are offered each year to graduate students doing research on related topics. The work of CTPL is of particular importance to NPSIA students enrolled in the trade policy concentration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centre for Security, Intelligence and Defence Studies (CSIDS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Centre for Security, Intelligence and Defence Studies (CSIDS) is a centre of excellence housed within NPSIA and that resulted from the amalgamation of the former Center for Security and Defence Studies (CSDS) and the Canadian Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies (CCISS). The goal of CSIDS is to bring together academic experts, practitioners and policy-makers to promote research, learning, outreach and dialogue on both national and international intelligence, security and defence matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CSIDS organizes an annual Year Ahead Conference, which is also supported by the Canadian Defence and Security Network<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Country Indicators for Foreign Policy (CIFP)<\/strong>
Associated Research Centre<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Country Indicators for Foreign Policy (CIFP) project originates from a prototype geopolitical database \u2013 GEOPOL \u2013 that was developed by the Canadian Department of National Defence in 1991. First Funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) in 1997, CIFP adopted some elements of GEOPOL to meet the needs of the academic community, policymakers and the private sector. CIFP is housed at NPSIA and led by Professor David Carment (as Principal investigator) and Professor Yiagadeesen (Teddy) Samy (as Senior Research Analyst). It is a multi-year effort to monitor failed and fragile states. The CIFP project has developed a methodology for evaluating country performance and engages in theoretical and statistical research on the causes and consequences of state fragility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canadian International Development Platform (CIDP)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proliferation of \u2018open data\u2019 and \u2018big data\u2019 has implications for international development research and analysis. More data can serve to obfuscate as much as illuminate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The goal of the Canadian International Development Platform is to leverage open data and big data, to enhance policy relevant analysis of international development issues, and to engage Canadians on development issues by grounding discussions in the best available evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CIDP began as an initiative of The North-South Institute (NSI), Canada\u2019s only independent international development think-tank, and is now housed at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, at Carleton University (Ottawa).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Centre in Modern Turkish Studies<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the Centre in Modern Turkish Studies (MTS) is the scholarly study of the Republic of Turkey, established in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk. The Centre is an academic unit within the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs and operates under the regulations of Carleton University. \u2018Scholarly study\u2019 covers multi-disciplinary teaching, research and publication, and community outreach activities. The Centre is rooted in the Turkish-Canadian community whose generous contributions to the University are facilitated by the Council of Turkish Canadians in collaboration with the Department of University Development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
