Congratulations to all our graduates this Fall!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

This fall, we have 27 Masters’ students and 2 PhD Students who will be graduating at the Fall Convocation<\/a> ceremony at Carleton this coming Saturday, November 12.  We wanted to take this occasion to highlight a few recent grads to showcase what they’ve done and where they are headed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n Casey Babb\n <\/h2>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n \n\n

PhD Grad Casey Babb would like you to know that his five years at NPSIA were some of the most challenging, but also some of the most rewarding years of his life.”Studying cyber conflict under the supervision of Dr. Alex Wilner tested my intellectual limits, made me a better policymaker, and gave me new perspectives on a wide range of global issues.Going forward, I’ll continue my work with the Government of Canada, the Royal United Services Institute in London, England, and the Institute for National Security Studies at Tel Aviv University.”<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

\n Pauline Danquah\n <\/h2>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n \n\n

MA Grad Pauline Danquah’s experience we’re sure echoes many graduate experiences this fall: She completed her MA entirely during the COVID-19 pandemic!”It has been a unique experience completing my master’s degree at NPSIA, as I began my master’s degree during the pandemic and completed it all online. Despite never being physically present on campus, I was able to participate in and facilitate meaningful events and activities for BIPOC and all students at NPSIA. These two years have been real!”Pauline has been busy – to say the least! She served as a committee member of the @studentsofnpsia EDI Committee and was an Equity Officer for the @patersonreview International Affairs Journal. This particular role was the first of its kind!”As a result of this program, I have been able to acquire the high level of research, policy analysis, critical thinking, and professional skills necessary to obtain governance level experience. I was fortunate to be able to secure employment with the federal government through the co-op program as well! I believe my professors equipped me with the skills I needed when I transitioned to my current job with the Federal Government of Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

\n David Strba\n <\/h2>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n \n\n

MA Graduate David Strba found that the greatest experience about NPSIA for him “was the wealth of information and support provided for me in my education journey, especially coming from an Economics background.” David, like many of our successful grads, took advantage of our amazing co-op program and “completed a co-op at Environment and Climate Change Canada working in sustainability policy”.Today, David is working at TTC in Corporate Policy and Planning.<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

\n Rebecca Niezen\n <\/h2>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n \n\n

Rebecca Niezen credits the faculty at NPSIA as instrumental during her time here. “The support, and expertise of the faculty at NPSIA, specifically Professor Samy, Professor Van Houten, and Professor Sauder, were tantamount to my success and the program be an enjoyable experience. NPSIA provided me with the relevant skills and knowledge to start a meaningful career in international affairs. NPSIA\u2019s course offerings combined with its co-op program allowed me to practically apply international development policy within my work as a federal public servant. After completing NPSIA, I accepted an indeterminate role in the multilateral affairs division of Environment and Climate Change Canada where I will be working as a policy analyst on climate finance in developing countries.”<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

\n Peter Loveridge\n <\/h2>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n \n\n

Following completion of the NPSIA MA, Peter entered the NPSIA PhD program seeking deeper understanding of international economic issues from a policy relevant perspective.  His doctoral dissertation examines why different countries experienced different real economic outcomes during the Global Financial Crisis of 2008-2009.He now works as the lead China Economist at the Department of Finance Canada, supporting Senior Management and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance on issues relating to China, including at the G20 and G7.<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n
