The Faculty of Science at Carleton University invites applications from qualified Nursing candidates for a position as a Contract Instructor in our new School of Nursing for the upcoming first cohort of direct-entry, compressed Bachelor of Science in Nursing, honours classes. The program adopts an innovative approach to nursing education. Through experiential learning, theory, research and clinical practice, the program is unique in its integration of advanced technology, experiential learning and cultural humility to prepare tech-savvy, compassionate and practice-ready nursing students. Our curriculum, which emphasizes Indigenous health concepts and mental health awareness for both the patients and the providers, will foster community-focused, inclusive healthcare innovators.
The successful candidate will be expected to design and teach courses on Indigenous Health and Indigenous Health topics and supervise/mentor students in the entry to practice competencies as defined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
Position Overview
We’re hiring 1 contract instructor to teach the following course in the Faculty of Science, School of Nursing. Please note that we have provided tentative dates of course delivery that may be subject to change pending final confirmation of the course schedule:

*Class is currently scheduled on Friday 0835-1125 for 12 weeks from September 2025 – December 2025.
Course description: Learners will review the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and begin to understand their role in transforming health systems and addressing Indigenous specific racism through theory and practice.

Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver course content for as assigned, focusing on health and nursing from an Indigenous context.
- Incorporate Indigenous perspectives, histories, and values into teaching materials.
- Mentor and support students to be aware of reconciliation, trauma informed care, and other topics in their positions of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous identity as future care providers.
- Act as a departmental advisor for incorporation of Indigenous health topics through-out the program in conjunction with the Indigenous Registered Nurse Faculty member and other Indigenous Carleton supports.
Qualifications
- Must have proof of Indigenous identity (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit), as per Carleton’s Indigenous Hiring policy, with a demonstrated connection to Indigenous communities
- Professional experience as a Nurse (Registered Nurse preferred. Registered Practical Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, Midwife or other will be considered).
- Preference given to applicants with experience with online teaching platforms (e.g., Zoom, Brightspace).
- Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous health and Nursing
- Preference given to applicants with demonstrated experience in teaching at a university or similar post-secondary institution, mentoring students, and/or facilitating workshops.
- Ability to travel and deliver in-person sessions when required
