Carleton University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) – Compressed Program is seeking Registered Nurses (RNs) and Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) to serve as Clinical Preceptors for first-year nursing students during their initial clinical placement in long-term care (LTC).
This is an exciting opportunity to:
•Support students as they begin to understand the role of the nurse within the healthcare team
•Help students develop foundational clinical skills
•Foster safe, ethical, and compassionate nursing practice
Clinical Placement Details will be in Long-Term Care (LTC) – with Perley Health
Student Focus Areas:
•To understand the nurse’s role in LTC
•Conduct head-to-toe assessments
•Support residents with activities of daily living (ADLs)
•Gain early exposure to medication management in alignment with CNO Entry-to-Practice (ETP) competencies
•Observing and participating in team-based, person-centred care
Your Role as a Preceptor
•Supervise and mentor students in clinical practice
•Provide opportunities to observe and apply nursing skills
•Model safe, ethical, and effective medication management
•Encourage critical thinking and professionalism
•Collaborate with the Clinical Lead at Carleton University
Preceptor Requirements
•Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
•Minimum 1 year of recent clinical experience in LTC (ideal candidate holds current employment with Perley Health)
•Commitment to role-modelling safe, competent, and ethical care
•Interest in supporting novice learners and person-centered care
