Banu Örmeci

Örmeci develops new technologies to clear pathogens and contaminants from wastewater so they do not pose a threat to public health and the environment. Working with industrial partners and wastewater treatment plants, she helps to improve processes and reduce operational costs. She also partners with industry to help advance new products and explore new applications in Canada and abroad.

Örmeci is a dedicated educator and mentor. She has organized outreach events to promote and encourage high school girls to participate in science and engineering fields. She has also mentored female undergraduate and graduate students at Carleton.

Örmeci is available to speak on issues related to women in science and engineering.


Clare Beckton

Beckton has extensive experience in a broad range of areas, including leading large organizations, strategic planning, governance, leadership to change systems, risk management, gender, diversity, inclusion, Indigenous policy issues and advancement of women’s leadership. She is the author of Own It, Your Success, Your Life, Your Future.

She served as the deputy head of Status of Women Canada, managing the departmental agency and providing advice to ministers. She led the development of public policy for the advancement of women and assisted a number of non- profits to seek funding to benefit women.


Melissa Haussman

Haussman teaches American and comparative North American politics. Her scholarship has generally focused on questions of comparative political institutions and behaviour in the United States and Canada, with particular emphasis on gender issues. She is the author, co-author or co-editor of five books. She is currently co-editor of the International Journal of Canadian Studies.  Among her recent publications is a co-authored chapter with Prof. Lori Turnbull comparing the shift toward “responsible parties” in the U.S. Congress versus a more executive- centered system in Canada under former prime minister Stephen Harper. This chapter was part of Canada and the U.S.: Differences that Count. This book was listed as one of the Hill Times Top 100 Books on Canada in 2014.


Aalya Ahmad

Ahmad teaches Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies. She received the “Femmy” award for outstanding contributions to the struggle for women’s equality in the National Capital Region in 2013. Her publications includes the chapter “When the Women Think: Teaching Horror in Women’s and Gender Studies” in Whispers in the Classroom: essays on the pedagogy of horror, edited by Ahmad and Sean Moreland, and “Wa(i)ving Solidarity: Feminist Activists Confronting Backlash” reprinted in Canadian Woman Studies: an Introductory Reader, third edition, with Victoria Bromley.


Lorraine Dyke

Dyke has spoken and published extensively on the changing dynamics of the workforce and diversity issues. Major monographs include a guide to managing diversity in law firms, a cross‑cultural study of attitudes towards women in management and large studies in the federal public service, the high-tech sector and policing.

Dyke is the founder and past director of CREWW. She is the recipient of six Best Paper Awards for her research. Her consulting experience includes work with some of Canada’s largest public- and private-sector organizations, including a major executive training initiative on diversity, a custom leadership program for a federal agency and various projects on workplace climate issues.

In 2014, Dyke was the recipient of a Leading Women Building Communities Award from the Government of Ontario.


Merridee Bujaki

Bujaki’s research focuses on: voluntary disclosure in corporate annual reports; and historical accounting, governance and accountability practices on the Rideau Canal. Other research projects address corporate governance; accounting policy choice; gender issues in management; mentoring; and women in accounting. She has taught in undergraduate, MBA, EMBA and professional programs and teaches in Sprott’s Management Certificate for Women (MCW).

Bujaki has published in academic journals and professional magazines, including: Journal of Accounting Literature; Women in Management Review; CAmagazine; CMA Management; Accounting Perspectives; Canadian Journal of Administrative Studies; Gender in Management: An International Journal; Accounting History, and Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal.
