An important, new report recommends that Canada update its Income Tax Act and create a permanent “home in government” for Canada’s charities and nonprofits, among other recommendations. The Advisory Committee on the Charitable Sector (ACSS) contains 14 members and was established in 2019 as a consultative forum for promoting dialogue between the charitable sector and the Government of Canada. Its objectives include advancing emerging issues relating to charities and ensuring that the regulatory environment supports the work that charities do. The ACCS released its first report recently.
