Long before community engagement was popular, Ted Jackson and Magda Seydegart made it an essential component of their lives. They met in the 1970s working with a nonprofit organization. Jackson became an Associate Professor in the School of Public Policy and Administration at Carleton University. Seydegart served as Executive Director of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa.

They’ve dedicated their personal and professional lives to giving back to communities, and this week, they established the Jackson Family Scholarship in Community Engagement — at Carleton University. The scholarship will be awarded to outstanding graduate students in the Master of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership program who demonstrate a strong potential for leadership and innovation in community engagement.
