\"Dr.The Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership program<\/a>, at Carleton University, is pleased to welcome Sharilyn Hale as an instructor.<\/p>\n

With a career spanning the philanthropic sector, Hale holds a passion for governance<\/a> and the critical role of governance education. She’ll teach PANL 5004 (Governance and Leadership).<\/p>\n

“Leadership and governance are at the heart of organizational impact, yet also among the biggest challenges facing the nonprofit sector in Canada today,\u201d she says. \u201cThis inspires my passion for excellence, and my belief that better is possible. As a sector, we don\u2019t adequately prepare people who are staff executives, volunteer directors or those who are otherwise engaged in board governance, and we often fail to invest in their leadership development. Fortunately, the MPNL program does incredibly important work to nurture current and future leaders and thinkers in philanthropy, and I\u2019m delighted to be joining the team.”<\/p>\n

Hale has served in executive leadership within charities, working directly with philanthropists and boards of directors. And as the founder of Watermark Philanthropic Council<\/a>, she consults on governance and philanthropy to charity boards, private foundations, and generous families internationally. A practitioner, educator, and researcher, Hale is also an experienced volunteer director with local, national, and international boards.<\/p>\n

She holds the Chartered Director credential for corporate governance from the Directors\u2019 College at The DeGroote School of Business, at McMaster University. She\u2019s also a certified advisor and trainer with BoardSource, the renowned, go-to resource for nonprofit governance. Her doctoral research focused on governance and family philanthropy.<\/p>\n

Hale is a member of the MPNL program’s Advisory Council<\/a> and is an enthusiastic ambassador for the program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
