Econometrics\u2014the specification, estimation and testing of statistical models in economics\u2014is no easy subject. Having an enthusiastic professor with a flair for illustrating complex concepts goes a long way in ensuring students understand\u2014and even enjoy\u2014the subject.<\/p>\n

In recognition of his excellence in teaching, Simon Power, an associate professor of economics, is an inaugural winner of the province\u2019s Leadership in Faculty Teaching Award. The 2007 awards were developed to recognize and encourage teaching excellence at Ontario\u2019s colleges and universities. Given to 100 faculty members who influence, motivate and inspire students, the award comes with $20,000 to encourage continued excellence in the classroom.<\/p>\n

Power was chosen for his expertise, enthusiasm, teaching excellence and dedication in support of student achievement. Besides helping academically, Power continues to go the extra mile in helping his students effect a successful transition to graduate studies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m absolutely thrilled to win this prestigious award,\u201d says Power, who tries to put a human face on econometrics by using a variety of innovative and amusing examples in his teaching. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to many more years of productive teaching at Carleton.\u201d<\/p>\n

Needless to say, Power is no stranger to winning teaching awards, having won seven previous teaching awards, including the Capital Educators\u2019 Award, the Carleton University Teaching Achievement Award, the Graduate Students\u2019 Association Excellence Award in Graduate Teaching, the Carleton University Students\u2019 Association Teaching Excellence Award, and the Faculty of Public Affairs Teaching Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
