The Paperwork<\/h2>\n

Directing your student to the appropriate paperwork is an important way to support them during their time at Carleton. Carleton University is committed to protecting the privacy of all students. To that end, the Carleton University Privacy Office<\/a> seeks to encourage the implementation of the privacy provisions of Ontario\u2019s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA<\/a>) within the university.<\/p>\n

Third Party Release<\/h2>\n

Before any information is shared with parents or others, your student must submit a Third Party Release form in advance through Carleton360. This electronic form allows students to submit a Third Party Release<\/a> for multiple offices without needing to complete separate paper copies.<\/p>\n

Tax Forms<\/h2>\n

The Tuition and Education Certificate or T2202 is available to each student through Carleton Central. Students simply request a T2202 on the web and print out the document. The printed copy meets all requirements from Canada Revenue Agency. T2202s are not mailed out to students.<\/p>\n

For Quebec residents, the Relev\u00e9 8 tax form requires a one-time application form<\/a>. After completing the form, all subsequent forms for eligible tax years will be automatically built and available with your other tax forms in Carleton Central.<\/p>\n

Registered Education Savings Plans<\/h2>\n

In order to release Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP) funds, institutions require confirmation of academic standing or enrolment from the university. Students who require an official Verification of Student Status (VOSS) in order to access RESP funds, or to help obtain other financial assistance, must request their VOSS through Carleton Central<\/a>\u00a0(Select \u2018Request a Transcript\/Certificate of Enrolment\/Verification of Student Status\u2019 from the main menu).<\/p>\n

The VOSS details the student\u2019s program, year in program, enrolment status and the current academic session dates and is accepted by all RESP providers as well as by most other institutions.<\/p>\n

The year of study and current enrolment status information on your VOSS is current as of the day you placed your request. Year of study is adjusted daily as grade information becomes available and current enrolment status is updated whenever registration changes are made. Please review your VOSS to confirm the year of study and current enrolment status information is correct before submitting the form to your provider. If the delivered form contains out of date information, please resubmit the request once your student’s year of study and current enrolment statuses have been updated.<\/p>\n

Note \u2013 all VOSS requests are produced electronically and emailed directly to the student\u2019s Carleton email account within two business days of request. The Registrar’s Office does not email third parties. The electronic document is official and is accepted by all RESP providers and most other institutions.<\/p>\n

Maintaining Interest-Free Status on Previous Student Loans<\/h2>\n

Students are generally not required to make payments on government student loans while they are enrolled in full-time studies<\/a>. However, students must notify their lender that they have returned to full-time study so that their loans will be placed in interest-free status. This can be done two ways.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Reapply for government student assistance through their home province or territory\u2019s student financial aid program (e.g. OSAP).<\/li>\n
  2. Complete a separate Continuation of Interest Free Status application through their home province or territory.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    In either case, the lender will be notified as part of the process.<\/p>\n

    While loans are in interest-free status, interest will not be charged and students do not need to make monthly payments.<\/p>\n

    The Undergraduate Calendar<\/h2>\n

    The Undergraduate Calendar<\/a> is your student\u2019s official resource for all their academic requirements for their degree or program as well as Carleton\u2019s admission and academic rules and regulations. The calendar is also a great source of important dates and deadlines your student needs to to be aware of. As parents, this will be an important resource for you as well. If your student is confused by their program requirements or about upcoming dates and deadlines, you should direct them to the calendar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
