A Special Parking Permit (SPP) will be made available for purchase to any staff/student applicant who presents an Accessible Parking Permit (APP) issued in the applicant’s name. This will be the main avenue to obtain a SPP from Parking Services.
Upon referral from Equity Services, Human Resources, or the Paul Menton Centre (PMC), Parking Services will grant a grace period of one academic term – up to four (4) months to allow the staff/student applicant time to complete the necessary documentation with their physician to apply for/obtain an MTO APP. During this time period, staff/student applicants will be issued with a temporary Special Permit that will expire at the end of the four (4) month period. Extensions beyond this period will not be granted.
In cases where there is an obvious physical limitation/restriction, (i.e.: broken leg, late pregnancy, etc.), and the staff/student applicant attends Parking Services, a SPP may be issued for up to three (3) months without presentation of an APP. Extensions beyond this period will not be granted without medical documentation or an APP.
In cases where staff/students do not qualify for an APP permit, but do have functional limitations (i.e.: phobias, psychological disorders/impairments, etc.) and may require special parking arrangements, Equity Services, Human Resources, or PMC may forward a request to Parking Services for SPP accommodation. Staff/students must provide supporting medical documentation to demonstrate the requirement for any such request.
