In association with the Arab Ambassadors, the Carleton Initiative for Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement organized a panel on Canada’s Role in the Middle East.

Canada’s Role in the Middle East – Event Summary
Panelists included His Excellency Saïd Hamad, Chief Representative of the Palestinian Delegation; Ferry de Kerckhove, Distinguished Research Fellow at the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute and former Canadian Ambassador to Egypt; and Dr. Bessma Momani, senior fellow at The Centre for International Governance Innovation and Brookings Institution, and associate professor of political science at the University of Waterloo and the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Dr. Farhang Rajaee, Professor of Political Science and Humanities and Director of Carleton University’s College of the Humanities, moderated the panel.
More than 120 Members of Parliament, political staffers, Ambassadors and diplomats representing 25 countries, senior officials from government and NGOs including the National Council on Canada Arab Relations, the Canadian Arab Institute, and the Canada-Arab Business Council, journalists and Carleton students and faculty attended the panel which was moderated by.
The event was organized with the support of Members of Parliament Deepak Obhrai, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Paul Dewar, Official Opposition critic for Foreign Affairs; and Irwin Cotler, Liberal critic for Justice and Human Rights.
