The French Embassy provided the spectacular venue and hosted a meeting of key parliamentarians and more than 40 Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Canada. Ambassador Nicolas Chapuis welcomed guests who included the Speaker of the Senate, the Honourable George Furey, and the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Honourable Geoff Regan, as well as parliamentary secretaries, committee chairs, chairs of Inter-parliamentary Association groups and opposition critics.
The Director of the Carleton Initiative, Maureen Boyd, noted the importance of forging people to people contacts to enable dialogue and to exchange ideas and best practices between countries. Speaker Furey thanked the Carleton Initiative for Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement and the Embassy of France for organizing Diplomats Meet Canada’s Political Leaders and facilitating these contacts. The President of Carleton University, Dr. Roseann Runte, joined Carleton deans and other special guests at the reception.
