Assigning Value to Peel Regional Police’s School Resource Officer Program
Carleton University researchers Linda Duxbury and Craig Bennell have released an extensive two-year Carleton University study of Peel Regional Police’s $9-million School Resource Officer (SRO) program.
Duxbury, a professor in Carleton’s Sprott School of Business, and Prof. Craig Bennell in the Department of Psychology based their research on a survey of nearly 1,300 Grade 9 students and 100 interviews with SROs, their bosses, school administrators and students in five Peel Region high schools. The researchers reviewed daily records kept by SROs and shadowed them during their working hours on 10 occasions. They also conducted a social return on investment analysis (SROI).
