Principal Investigator: Monique Sénéchal

Research Description: Our lab is devoted to understanding how children learn language and literacy from events that occur naturally in their lives. One such activity is when parents (or other adults) read books to children, or when children read books themselves. We are also interested in understanding the basic mechanisms that underlie the acquisition of reading and writing.

Some of our ongoing projects include:

  1. The examination of the links among oral and written storytelling, reading comprehension, and cognitive processes in grade 4 children.
  2. A test of the role of implicit exposure to print during oral vocabulary learning.
  3. The description of the reading profiles of children in French Immersion followed from kindergarten to grade 2.
