He made significant contributions toward awareness, equity, and integration of persons with disabilities throughout his career as an educator and coordinator of educational support services both at Carleton University and Algonquin College. This award is given annually to a deserving student who is enrolled at Algonquin College, Carleton University, La Cit\u00e9 Coll\u00e8giale or the University of Ottawa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preference will be given to students with a learning disability, then to students with other disabilities and finally to all other students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"eligibility-criteria\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eligibility Criteria:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Must have demonstrated a significant contribution towards awareness, equality and integration<br>of persons with disabilities in their home institutions as well as the larger community.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Should demonstrate some of the traits which Dr. Burton was most noted for: perseverance,<br>dedication and a strong sense of community spirit.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Must be enrolled as a special, part-time, or full-time student in one of the four participating<br>institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Must be in good academic standing.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Preference will be given to students returning to one of the institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Preference will be given to students with a learning disability, then to students with any other<br>disability and finally to all other students.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"faqs\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">FAQs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The PMC has compiled a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/current-students\/financial-aid\/dr-john-davis-burton-award\/dr-john-davis-burton-award-faqs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">frequently asked questions about the Dr. John Davis Burton Award<\/a> for your convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that the Dr. John Davis Burton Award is extremely competitive, drawing multiple excellent applications each year. The successful candidate(s) are individuals who demonstrate their commitment and prepare an application which goes beyond the minimum requirements outlined in this form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More information about the Dr. John Davis Burton Award can be found on the application form. With further questions, call the PMC at 613-520-6608 or email <a href=\"mailto:pmc@carleton.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pmc@carleton.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications open April 1 and close May 31, annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"application-process\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"fontstyle0\">Application Process:<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete all sections of the Dr. John Davis Burton Award Application Form;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a brief personal statement, in your choice of format (e.g. print, audio, video), describing how you meet the criteria of the award;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enclose at least one letter of recommendation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Return application form and supporting documents to Carleton Awards and Financial Aid, <a href=\"mailto:awards@carleton.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">awards@carleton.ca<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>No late and\/or incomplete applications will be considered.
