To install Read and Write:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. Start here: Read&Write for Education – Student resources | Texthelp<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Press the “Download Now” button beneath the version of Read & Write (i.e., Windows (CAN), Mac, Google Chrome, or Microsoft edge) you would like to install on your device.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Run the installer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. When you run the program for the first time you\u2019ll be asked to login. Select Sign in with Microsoft<\/strong> and login using your Carleton email address,  YourUsername@cmail.carleton.ca<\/a><\/strong>, (staff: \u2026.@cunet.carleton.ca<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Note that if you are downloading the Mac version<\/strong> of the software make sure to go into the General menu in the settings to enable Read&Write to automatically check for system updates.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Read and Write and the web (including Brightspace for online tests)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Open a browser once Read and Write is running.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Read and Write will prompt you to install a plug-in (or add-in).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. Follow instructions to do so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. To read text on the web, hover the mouse cursor over any text you want read and the program will start reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      To use Read and Write with PDF<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        \n
      1. Click on the PDF button on the ribbon bar at the top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Browse your computer and open a PDF.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Click anywhere on the text to have the program start reading.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Note: <\/strong>often PDFs will open in a browser.  To read them effectively, save them offline and open via the RW PDF button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        To adjust the voice and speed (Windows)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          \n
        1. Click on the menu at the top right (three horizontal bars).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Select \u201cShow more settings\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Click on Speech. On the right you can choose a voice and adjust voice speed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          To adjust the voice and speed (Mac)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

          Click on gear icon at the top right.  Settings will be similar to as shown for Windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
