Whether you&#8217;re returning to campus or beginning a new semester, a little preparation can make the transition smoother and less stressful. <\/p>\n\n\n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From reviewing your courses and accessing accommodations to planning your wellness supports and campus services, these ten tips will help you start the fall term feeling confident, organized, and ready to achieve your goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"1-review-your-timetable-course-delivery-formats-and-course-outlines\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Review your timetable, course delivery formats and course outlines.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">complete timetable<\/strong> (including course codes and classrooms) can be viewed in Carleton Central. <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Note<\/strong> that classroom locations may be updated leading up to the beginning of the term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Course outlines will be posted to Brightspace<\/strong> by your professor(s) in the days leading up to the first day of class. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As your course outlines become available, verify:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Delivery formats (online or in-person) and prepare yourself for their requirements.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Classroom locations. Pro tip: if possible, come to campus ahead of time to orient yourself.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"2-request-your-accommodations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Request Your Accommodations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the semester begins, select the accommodations that apply to each course via your Ventus portal.&nbsp;The PMC recommends requesting accommodations early in the term in order to avoid any delays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/current-students\/academic-accommodations\/requesting-academic-accommodations\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/current-students\/academic-accommodations\/requesting-academic-accommodations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Requesting Academic Accommodations page <\/a>for a guide to requesting accommodations using Ventus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"3-request-alternate-formats\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Request Alternate Formats<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If have already been referred to&nbsp;<strong>Alternate Formats<\/strong>&nbsp;at Library Accessibility Services, review&nbsp;readings&nbsp;and course requirements and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/library.carleton.ca\/services\/library-accessibility-services\/alternate-formats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">request your alternate&nbsp;formats<\/a>&nbsp;before or early in the term.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you think you could&nbsp;benefit&nbsp;from alternate formats for your course readings, please contact your PMC Coordinator.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"4-manage-your-u-pass\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Manage Your U-Pass<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you originally received your U-Pass after July&nbsp;1,&nbsp;2024,&nbsp;and are registered&nbsp;in 1.5 credits or more per term,&nbsp;your fall U-Pass will be activated automatically the first time you use it on transit in the fall pass period,&nbsp;beginning\u202f<strong>September&nbsp;1,&nbsp;2026<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">NEW&nbsp;student<\/strong> who do not yet have a Campus Card and U-Pass should follow the steps on the Campus Card Office&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campuscard\/get-your-card\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campuscard\/get-your-card\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Get Your Campus Card page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are&nbsp;<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">registered&nbsp;in less than 1.5 credits per term<\/strong> and need to use public transit, please contact your PMC coordinator to discuss support for an opt-in to U-Pass&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For more information on how to manage your U-Pass:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/upass\/get-your-u-pass-card\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/carleton.ca\/upass\/get-your-u-pass-card\/<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"5-manage-your-cusa-health-and-dental-plans\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Manage Your CUSA Health and Dental Plan(s)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting Fall 2026, undergraduate students taking <strong>a minimum of 1.5 credits per term are automatically&nbsp;enrolled in the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cusaonline.ca\/services\/healthplan\/\"><strong>CUSA&nbsp;Health &amp; Dental&nbsp;Plan<\/strong><\/a>.&nbsp;Note that undergraduate students registered&nbsp;in less than 1.5 credits per term&nbsp;are NOT automatically&nbsp;enrolled&nbsp;in the CUSA&nbsp;Health&nbsp;&amp; Dental&nbsp;Plan.&nbsp;The deadline to self-enrol is&nbsp;between&nbsp;<strong>Sept 9 \u2013 October 2, 2026 <\/strong>(for full-year coverage).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;already covered by an equivalent health and\/or dental plan (such as a parent or spouse\u2019s employee benefit plan), you can opt out during the\u202fChange-of-Coverage Period <strong>(September 9th to October 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2026<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CUSA Health &amp; Dental Plan does not cover graduate students.&nbsp;For more information on your coverage through the <strong>Graduate Students\u2019 Association<\/strong>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/gsacarleton.ca\/gsahealthplan\/\">Greenshield Health Plan<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"6-check-the-campus-store-for-textbooks\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Check the Campus Store for Textbooks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carletonshop.ca\/\"><strong>Campus Store<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/a>(located&nbsp;on the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Floor of&nbsp;Nideyinan)&nbsp;is now under the management of Carleton&nbsp;University!&nbsp;Check out their new renovated space and new merchandise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check&nbsp;their&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.bookware3000.ca\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>&nbsp;to see if your professors have&nbsp;submitted&nbsp;orders for your course textbooks.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Note that some professors may choose to order the textbooks for their course(s) through other channels. This information is typically made available via the relevant course outlines\/by your professor directly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"7-plan-for-mental-health-and-wellness-support\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Plan for Mental Health and Wellness Support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Knowing what&#8217;s available ahead of time can make a big difference when you need support. Look into:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Counselling services\u202for peer support groups. Use the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wellness.carleton.ca\/navigator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wellness navigator<\/a>&nbsp;to help you find wellness services on campus.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quiet spaces\u202for sensory-friendly zones on campus&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crisis support\u202for mental health hotlines&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carleton has a wide range of wellness services and programming. Visit the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wellness.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mental health and well-being website<\/a>&nbsp;to find out more.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"8-connect-with-the-pmc-early\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Connect with the PMC Early<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Determine&nbsp;if you need to consult your disabilities coordinator&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;your accommodation needs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Quick questions and queries can often be addressed by email. Your disabilities coordinator will help you&nbsp;determine&nbsp;if an appointment is necessary.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read your emails and visit&nbsp;our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/\">website<\/a>&nbsp;for new&nbsp;information and&nbsp;stay up to date with relevant information through our newsletters.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"9-plan-your-travel\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Plan your Travel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campus-map\/\"><strong>interactive campus<\/strong><\/a><strong> map<\/strong> to familiarize yourself with campus buildings and map out the quickest routes between your classes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/plan.octranspo.com\/plan\"><strong>OC Transpo Travel Planner<\/strong><\/a> to plan your commute by bus, O-Train, or a combination of transit options.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you drive to campus, review the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/parking\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/04\/Campus-Map-2025.pdf\"><strong>Campus Parking Map<\/strong><\/a> in advance to locate your assigned parking lot and identify nearby campus entrances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"10-download-the-latest-version-of-the-carleton-mobile-app\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">10.
