Knowing how to shelter-in-place is essential for your safety and the safety of others.<\/p>\n\n\n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>Every floor on campus has an <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ehs\/\">EHS Board<\/a> with a QR Code linking to the Safety Plan for that building. Check out the plan for the buildings you frequent regularly to know what to do in case of emergency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">If you know in advance that you may need assistance<\/strong> during a shelter-in-place event, please complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/emergency\/procedures\/shelter-in-place\/#PersonsRequestingAssistance\">Persons Requesting Assistance form<\/a>. This would apply to any person who is not able to exit a building safely by means of evacuation stairwells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"what-to-do-in-a-shelter-in-place-situation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to Do in a Shelter-in-Place Situation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose a <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">small room <\/strong>with a <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">closing door,<\/strong> ideally with a <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">window and phone.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Call <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Campus Safety<\/strong> at <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">613-520-4444<\/strong> or <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Ext. 4444<\/strong> to report your location.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Tell Campus Safety <\/strong>that you are sheltering in place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide your <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">name and exact location<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Share any hazards<\/strong> you have noted (smoke, heat, flames, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mention any <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">mobility restrictions or health conditions.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Let them know if you are with others,<\/strong> and how many of you there are.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Do NOT use elevators.<\/strong> They automatically return to the ground floor and will not respond to calls during emergencies on any floor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Learn more about shelter-in-place procedures <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/emergency\/procedures\/shelter-in-place\/\">on Carleton\u2019s Emergency Procedures page<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stay safe, stay informed, and take a moment to review your building\u2019s safety plan today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every floor on campus has an EHS Board with a QR Code linking to the Safety Plan for that building.
