{"id":8071,"date":"2025-12-02T13:47:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T18:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/?p=8071"},"modified":"2025-12-03T09:02:42","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T14:02:42","slug":"tips-and-resources-for-december-final-exams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/pmc\/2025\/tips-and-resources-for-december-final-exams\/","title":{"rendered":"Tips and Resources for December Final Exams"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n            <div class=\"cu-textmedia flex flex-col lg:flex-row mx-auto gap-6 md:gap-10 my-6 md:my-12 first:mt-0 max-w-5xl\">\n        <div class=\"justify-start cu-textmedia-content cu-prose-first-last\" style=\"flex: 0 0 100%;\">\n            <header class=\"font-light prose-xl cu-pageheader md:prose-2xl cu-component-updated cu-prose-first-last\">\n                                    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] pb-5 after:w-10 text-cu-black-700 not-prose\">\n                        Tips and Resources for December Final Exams\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                \n                                    \n\n<p>If you are writing any of your final exams with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ses\/exam-accommodations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>McIntyre Examination Centre<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;(in-person or online), we recommend the following tips to ensure a positive and productive experience.<\/p>\n\n\n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"before-your-exams\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before Your Exams<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"check-ventus-for-accommodation-details\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Check Ventus for Accommodation Details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This includes the course code, date, start and end time(s), location, accommodations, and status of each exam\u2026.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">14 days before the date of an in-person exam<\/strong>; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">6 days before the date of an online exam in Brightspace.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure Accommodations for Each Exam are Accurate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"for-online-exams\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">For online exams\u2026<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If there is no accommodation information for an online exam email your course instructor ASAP to ask if they plan to apply the extra time in Brightspace themselves or if MEC will apply it on their behalf.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">\u201cOnline Exam \u2013 Professor to Accommodate\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;indicates that the professor will apply the extra time in Brightspace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are writing an exam that is being&nbsp;<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">e-proctored by CoMaS or Zoom<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong>&nbsp;make sure you are&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ses\/e-proctoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">familiar with the technical guidelines<\/a>&nbsp;before the exam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"at-reminders\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">AT reminders\u2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">If you have Assistive Technology (AT) software (e.g. reading or voice dictation)<\/strong>&nbsp;as part of your exam accommodations, make sure you are trained and comfortable using the software before your exams. AT training with an assistive technologist can be arranged through your PMC coordinator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">&nbsp;\u201cpre-approved personal music\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;accommodations for your exams, contact Jason Goveas,&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:JasonGoveas@cunet.carleton.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JasonGoveas@cunet.carleton.ca<\/a>, to make arrangements to drop off your music playlist for vetting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Please note smart glasses<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>(e.g. Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer) are considered&nbsp;<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">unauthorized devices&nbsp;and are not permitted on formal exam sites.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"familiarize-yourself-with-in-person-exam-locations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Familiarize Yourself with In-Person Exam Location(s)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campus-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interactive campus map<\/a> to plan your route in advance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Budget enough time to travel to campus in time for your exams<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>whether arranging a ride with family\/friend or planning out your OC Transpo trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"on-exam-day\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">On Exam Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Plan to arrive&nbsp;<strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">15 minutes before<\/strong>&nbsp;your exam begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"if-you-arrive-late-to-an-exam\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">If you arrive late to an exam\u2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">There is a&nbsp;30-minute grace period&nbsp;at the start of formally scheduled exams.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you arrive at your exam location within 30 minutes of the scheduled start time, you will be admitted without question.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">If you are more than 30 minutes late,<\/strong> proceed to your exam site. The on-site proctor will contact your professor to seek permission for you to write the exam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">You will not receive additional time to compensate <\/strong>for the time lost due to the late arrival.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"before-you-begin-your-exam\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before you begin your exam\u2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review the summary of accommodations and the amount of time (extra time included) you are entitled to receive for accuracy.
