We are saddened to announce our distinguished colleague John Sigler passed away on July 8 at the age of 89. John earned a PhD in Political Science from the University of Southern California in 1968 and took up a faculty position at Carleton in 1971. He was a scholar of International Relations with particular expertise in the Middle East, but also Canadian and American foreign policy (including Canada-US relations). He was Director of the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs between 1977 and 1982. He served on the boards of various scholarly associations, including the International Studies Association. He retired in the 1990s.
“Sigler was a gifted student of American foreign policy and the international politics of the Middle East. He lived to share with great enthusiasm his deep knowledge of these fields with his students, his colleagues and the wider community.” Glen Williams, Professor emeritus
