This course will trace the history and context of Indigenous activism in what is now called Canada. This course will be based on a multidisciplinary approach to understanding the long history of Indigenous activism. Beginning in the early 20th century, we will explore various critical points in history, their contexts, and what can be learned to address contemporary issues. We will be exploring how Indian policy impacts Indigenous people and how Indigenous people organized to articulate their culture, rights, and sovereignty.
