After two years of being held online, the reading group “Reading the Classics of Social Sciences” is now back in person for its 2022-2023 edition. This means that free coffee and cookies will also be back!

This year, we will be discussing a foundational book in the social sciences: Karl Polanyi, The Great Transformation: The Political and Economic Origins of our Time. As with previous years, there will be four meetings in total during the academic year: two in the fall and two in the winter.

The aim of this activity is to bring together faculty members, graduate students and advanced undergraduate students from different subfields to read and discuss books that have left a significant mark in the social sciences and humanities. The reading group is the opportunity to join us in a collective effort to read great works more closely and to partake in a (casual, yet productive) interdisciplinary dialogue. Please share the word with anyone who would be interesting in discussing this year’s author.
