January 27, 2022 at 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM

Location:online zoom event
Cost:Free

This year, we are discussing a well-known book by the German sociologist Karl Mannheim, Ideology and Utopia. There will be four meetings in total during the academic year.

Meeting #2 will be held on Thursday January 27th from 2:30-3:30pm. We will be discussing the second chapter (the most interesting one!) of Karl Mannheim, Ideology and Utopia, which focuses on the meaning(s) and uses of the modern concept of ideology.

Graduate students and Faculty members from other disciplines in the social sciences and humanities are welcome to participate.

Pdf of Chapter 2, pp. 49-96, to be discussed during our second meeting: Karl Mannheim-Ideology and Utopia, Chap. 2

Pdf of book: Ideology and Utopia

For those less familiar with the reading group, the aim of this activity is to bring together Faculty members and graduate students from different subfields to read and discuss books that have left a significant mark in the social sciences and humanities. This reading group is the opportunity to join us in a collective effort to read great works more closely and to partake in a (casual, yet productive) interdisciplinary dialogue.
