Stephen Smith

PhD candidate

Stephen is a PhD candidate with specializations in International Relations and Comparative Politics. He received his MA from National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan where he focused on Taiwan-China relations.

Stephen’s doctoral research explores the development of Chinese theories of international relations in the context of China’s rise, Chinese conceptions of world order, and China’s foreign relations. His research is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. Jeremy Paltiel.

As part of the Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange, Stephen spent 2017-2018 at Fudan University in Shanghai. Stephen’s research is funded by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
