{"id":10547,"date":"2012-08-02T14:20:51","date_gmt":"2012-08-02T18:20:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/polisci\/?post_type=cu_people&#038;p=10547"},"modified":"2026-02-18T14:36:02","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T19:36:02","slug":"geiger-martin","status":"publish","type":"cu_people","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/polisci\/people\/geiger-martin\/","title":{"rendered":"Martin Geiger"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"mb-6 cu-pageheader cu-component-updated md:mb-12\">\n    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 pb-5 after:w-10 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px\">\n                    \n             \n                \n            <\/h1>\n\n    \n    <\/header>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"associate-professor\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Associate Professor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Martin Geiger (PhD, University of Bonn\/Germany) is Associate Professor of \u2018Politics of Human Migration and Mobility\u2019 at Carleton University.&nbsp; His work focuses on European and global migration governance, the role of inter-state and private actors in migration management, and interrelated aspects of political regulation, development (innovation and growth) and population change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Geiger is cross-appointed between the Department of Political Science, the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/eurus\/\">Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/africanstudies\/\">Institute of African Studies<\/a>. He is also an active member of Carleton\u2019s \u2018Migration &amp; Diaspora Studies\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/mds\/\">MDS<\/a>) initiative, the Centre for Europe Studies (<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ces\/\">CES<\/a>), and other initiatives and networks at Carleton. Before joining Carleton, Dr. Geiger held other academic appointments at centres and universities in Europe and Canada. He is an honorary member and former senior researcher of the renowned European migration research centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imis.uni-osnabrueck.de\/en\/startpage.html\">IMIS<\/a> (University of Osnabr\u00fcck, Germany); furthermore, he regularly guest-lectures courses at other universities, e.g., the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH). Dr. Geiger is the founding editor of the peer-reviewed \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/series\/14800\">Mobility &amp; Politics<\/a>\u2019 series with Palgrave Macmillan (co-editor: Marta Pachocka, SGH\/CMR Warsaw).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Geiger has received various research and teaching awards, including a prestigious German PhD fellowship (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), a Government of Canada Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Ontario Early Researcher Award (ERA) and a Capital Educators\u2019 Award.
