Williams also co-edited and contributed chapters to two field-defining textbooks: <em>Canadian Politics in the 21st Century<\/em> (with Michael Whittington and in seven published editions from 1981-2007) and <em>The New Canadian Political Economy<\/em> (with Wallace Clement.) Committed to interdisciplinary and historical-developmental approaches, his teaching and research explored Canada\u2019s place within the international system.
