His research interests are situated in the fields of political economy, economic sociology, and sociology of work and labour, with a specialization in the political economy of work and labour markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is currently a co-investigator in two SSHRC-funded projects: 1)&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/closeesgap.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Closing the Enforcement Gap<\/a>: Improving Employment Standards for Workers in Precarious Jobs \u2013 focuses on the enforcement of employment standards legislation in Canada. This project aims to understand the ways in which poor legislative enforcement exacerbates conditions of precarious work, and to develop strategies to improve enforcement for workers in precarious jobs. 2) Spaces of Labour in Moments of Urban Populism \u2013 explores intersections of populism, austerity, and labour in urban North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Thomas is author of four books:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jstor.org\/stable\/j.ctt80r9t\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regulating Flexibility: The Political Economy of Employment Standards<\/a>&nbsp;(McGill-Queens, 2009),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.ca\/books\/about\/Interrogating_the_New_Economy.html?id=bAcq-a6OU1wC&amp;redir_esc=y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Interrogating the New Economy: Restructuring Work in the 21st Century<\/a>&nbsp;(co-edited with N. Pupo, University of Toronto Press, 2010),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadianscholars.ca\/books\/work-and-labour-in-canada-3rd-edition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Work and Labour in Canada: Critical Issues<\/a>, 3rd Edition (coauthored with A. Jackson, Canadian Scholars Press, 2017), and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/Power-Everyday-Practices-Deborah-Brock\/dp\/0176502033\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Power and Everyday Practices<\/a>&nbsp;(co-edited with D. Brock and R. Raby, Nelson, 2012).
