His latest passion is environmental history. Prior to arriving at Carleton, he was based in the School of Geography and Environmental Sciences at Monash University in Melbourne, undertaking post-doctoral research on rural and food system sustainability in Australia. He completed his PhD in the Faculty of Environmental Studies at York University in Toronto in 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter Andr\u00e9e is currently Professor in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University. He is also cross appointed in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies and in the Institute of Political Economy. Prof Andr\u00e9e\u2019s research focuses on the politics of agriculture, food and the environment. He practices, and teaches, community-based participatory research methods and mixed-methods research. Prof. Andr\u00e9e is co-editor of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.taylorfrancis.com\/books\/e\/9780429503597\"><em>Civil Society and Social Movements in Food System Governance<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;(Routledge, 2019) as well as&nbsp;<em>Globalization and Food Sovereignty: Global and Local Change in the New Politics of Food<\/em>&nbsp;(University of Toronto Press, 2014). He is also author of&nbsp;<em>Genetically Modified Diplomacy<\/em>&nbsp;(University of British Columbia Press, 2007).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof Andr\u00e9e is the Director of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/3ci\/\">Carleton Center for Community Innovation (3ci)<\/a>, a university-wide research centre that seeks to strengthen community vitality in Canada and abroad by linking community-engaged research to policy and practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 2024, Prof. Andr\u00e9e is co-director, with Dr. John Reid of the Ngai Tahu Centre at the University of Canterbury, of a research partnership entitled \u201cLiving Relationships\u201d. This project builds on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/3ci\/transition-challenge-wananga\/\">Sustainability Transition Challenge W\u0101nanga<\/a>&nbsp;hosed by Reid and Andree in 2023 held in \u014ctautahi (Christchurch) New Zealand. The Living Relationships project will share stories of decolonizing food system sustainability transition initiatives in Aotearoa and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With Prof. Ryan Katz-Rosene from the University of Ottawa, Prof. Andr\u00e9e is co-host of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecopoliticspodcast.ca\/about\/\">ecopolitics podcast series<\/a>. The series features interviews with leading environmental politics thinkers, entrepreneurs and activists from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Andr\u00e9e is a first generation immigrant to Canada from the Netherlands. He lives with his wife, Chris, and son, Nicolas, on unceded Algonquin territory alongside the Gatineau river in Qu\u00e9bec.
