Each candidate, in consultation with the Institute, must select and follow one of two optional pattern:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014 3.0 credits (or the equivalent), a thesis equivalent to 2.0 credits, and an oral examination of the thesis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014 4.0 credits (or the equivalent), a research essay equivalent to 1.0 credit, and an oral examination of the research essay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(A one-semester seminar is usually valued at half a credit)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whichever pattern is selected, all students in the Institute are required to take<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PECO 5000 Theories of Political Economy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PECO 5001 The Methodology of Political Economy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All master&#8217;s candidates must maintain at least B standing (grade point average of 8.0).
