Shemar is an Associate at McMillan Vantage, bringing years of experience engaging in strategic communications, policy development and research, and government advocacy. He is a talented strategist and has a diverse set of experience working in non-profit organizations, politics, and private sector consulting firms.<\/p>\n
Before joining Vantage, Shemar served as the Government Relations Director for the McMaster Students Union. He worked alongside McMaster University in lobbying elected officials, preparing meeting materials, and raising the profile of McMaster\u2019s brand within the local community. Through this, he has gained extensive experience working with community leaders, businesses, and elected officials at all levels of government.<\/p>\n
Shemar is a creative problem-solver with over 5 years of policy development and analysis experience on issues related to Housing, Transit, Indigenous Policy, Post-Secondary Affordability, and Community Development.<\/p>\n
After obtaining his master\u2019s degree in Political Management, he worked at a leading public affairs firm in Ottawa as an Advisor, supporting clients in the technology and financial services sector. Leveraging his previous knowledge and newly refined skillset, he simultaneously worked as a Freelance Writer at IPolitics Intel, providing reports on the committee proceedings of Bill C-4 (Conversion Therapy) and Bill C-7 (Medical Assistance in Dying).<\/p>\n
Since joining Vantage, Shemar has supported clients in developing long-term strategic plans, managing crisis communications challenges, and lobbying the federal government.<\/p>\n
Originally from Toronto, Shemar is particularly interested in environmental sustainability, corporate social responsibility, Indigenous rights advocacy, and technology. He currently holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Social Psychology from McMaster University and a minor in Religious Studies.<\/p>\n
