He served as Member of Parliament for York West from 1984 to 1999 and as chair of the National Liberal Caucus from 1990 to 1993. In the government of Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Mr. Marchi served in three portfolios: International Trade, Environment, and Citizenship and Immigration. Students study Canadian political institutions, strategic communications, public opinion research, leadership, advocacy, policy, and campaigns. Graduates work for Cabinet ministers, members of Parliament, senators, government relations firms, advocacy organizations, and business associations.

The position of practitioner-in-residence is a one-year post held by a distinguished individual with extensive experience in Canadian politics. The previous practitioners-in-residence were Bill Fox (2015–16), Rob Silver (2016–17), William Stairs (2017–18), and Rachel Curran (2018–19). The practitioner-in-residence teaches two courses, mentors students, and organizes public events.

For more information, please contact Stephen Azzi, associate professor and program director, Clayton H.
