{"id":124,"date":"2018-10-29T09:54:38","date_gmt":"2018-10-29T13:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ponja\/?page_id=124"},"modified":"2020-01-22T15:29:17","modified_gmt":"2020-01-22T20:29:17","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ponja\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About Ponja Bibliography"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>History<\/h2>\n<p>PoNJA-GenKon is a listserve group established in March 2003.\u00a0The acronym stands for\u00a0<strong><em>Po<\/em>st-1945 (<em>N<\/em>ineteen forty five)\u00a0<em>J<\/em>apanese\u00a0<em>A<\/em>rt Discussion Group \/\u00a0<em>Gen<\/em>dai Bijutsu\u00a0<em>Kon<\/em>dankai<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The co-founders, Reiko Tomii and Miwako Tezuka, are art historians based in New York City, and it was their dream to bring\u00a0together specialists and professionals with interest in Japanese art produced since 1945. Since its inception, PoNJA-GenKon\u00a0has grown to become a large international network of people with shared interests and passions. We value the creative and\u00a0intellectual input of individuals who can contribute to this sense of community and to the field of contemporary Japanese art.<\/p>\n<p>Today, PoNJA-GenKon has grown to include more than 200 global members. Many of them are leaders and innovators of the field, which we proudly call\u00a0\u201cPonja.\u201d PoNJA-GenKon is a virtual community but it has created a physical presence through organizing and co-organizing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ponjagenkonnet.wordpress.com\/conferences\/\">conferences<\/a>\u00a0in collaboration with academic and art institutions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aaa-a.org\/programs\/a-presentation-by-reiko-tomii-ponja-genkon-10-years\/\">Read the 10-year anniversary interview with Reiko Tomii here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Mission<\/h2>\n<p>As our name and logo suggest, the goal of PoNJA-GenKon is to bring together specialists and professionals in the English-speaking\u00a0world with interest in post-1945 Japanese art, and to offer a forum for interaction and debate on issues addressing\u00a0postwar Japanese art and Japanese modernity.
