Experiment: DEAP-3600, SiPM R&D
Region: North America
The Particle Astrophysics Group at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful applicant will participate in data analysis for the DEAP-3600 experiment, as well as research and development of silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) detectors for next-generation noble liquid experiments searching for dark matter and neutrinoless double beta decay.
The Carleton University Physics Department (http://physics.carleton.ca) has a strong particle astrophysics research program, contributing to international collaborations (DEAP-3600, EXO-200, nEXO) with emphasis on current and future activities at SNOLAB. Carleton University is a core member of the Canadian Particle Astrophysics Research Centre (CPARC). The Physics Department also features strong research programs in collider particle physics (ATLAS), particle physics theory, and medical physics, with mutually beneficial interactions between all research groups.
– Ph.D. in Experimental Physics, Applied Physics or Engineering at the time of employment
– Experience with Experimental Physics detector development, construction, commissioning, or operation
– Proficiency with computing programming languages (e.g. Python, C++)
Additional Desired Qualifications:
– Experience with cryogenic systems, especially with liquid argon or xenon
– Experience with research and development for silicon detectors
– Familiarity with data analysis software (e.g. ROOT) and/or GEANT simulation
This is a full time, 2 year, postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal and a starting annual salary of $56,300.
Applications for this position should contain a description of research interests, and a CV including a list of publications. In addition, applicants should arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted from physicists who know their work well.
Carleton University is an equal opportunity employer and strongly encourages all qualified persons to apply. As a postdoc at Carleton, you would be represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada and entitled to membership in PSAC Local 77000.
Review of applications will begin on Sept 29, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled. We would like to make an appointment as soon as possible.
