A man of such integrity – a man who was humble – a man who worked tirelessly for others. Denis will be truly missed. Our hearts go out to the family. We will all keep a piece of Denis in our hearts.

During his career at Carleton, Denis held positions of increasing responsibility. He joined Computing and Communications Services as a consultant in 2004 in the role of Program Director of the Campus Network Upgrade project. In 2009, he was hired as the Assistant Director, Operations and Infrastructure. In 2011, he assumed the role of Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) and was appointed acting CIO in 2012. Denis was appointed as the university’s permanent CIO in January 2013.

Denis led numerous projects during his time at Carleton and achieved many university-wide milestones. They include creating the Research Computing Support Department for faculty, a five-year upgrade to the wired and wireless network, new services promoting collaboration and communication including cuCollab and the Intranet, simple sign-on initiatives and increasing IT security.

Before coming to Carleton, Denis has held numerous positions directing and managing IT within the high-tech and telecommunications sectors. He also served on the board of directors of the Ottawa Regional Advanced Network.

Beyond these significant accomplishments, Denis forged deep personal friendships and professional connections with colleagues across the campus and within the broader post-secondary education and IT sectors. His leadership will be greatly missed.

The university extends its sympathies to the Levesque family. Denis was predeceased by his wife Odette and is survived by his three children and six grandchildren. Funeral details should be available in a few days in the Ottawa Citizen newspaper and on the Capital Funeral Home website at: https://www.arbormemorial.ca/en/capital/obituaries.

Alastair Summerlee
President and Vice-Chancellor

To All Members of the Carleton Community, The Carleton University community is saddened to learn of the passing of Denis Levesque on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 after a brief illness.
