\n CU Indigenous Strategic Initiatives Committee\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

To All Members of the Carleton Community,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following our first Indigenous Education Council meeting of the year, I am pleased to share that Carleton will convene a broad and inclusive committee to revitalize our Indigenous strategy and re-energize our relationships with Indigenous communities in the region and across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are building on strength and the committee will first conduct an environmental scan of all the great Indigenous initiatives that are currently taking plan at Carleton. The committee will then facilitate widespread engagement and consultation sessions over the course of the 2018-2019 academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result will be an overarching strategy putting forth a series of Carleton-specific recommendations. We are fully committed to ensuring that the final recommendations are implemented to order to support positive long-term change on our campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee will be led by co-chairs Prof. Kahente Horn-Miller from the School of Indigenous and Canadian Studies, Benny Michaud, assistant director of Equity Services responsible for the Centre for Indigenous Initiatives, and Jerry Tomberlin, interim provost and vice-president (Academic). Our Indigenous Education Council will continue to play a major role in the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee will include a broad representation of people from across campus and Indigenous communities. To nominate individuals to sit on the committee, please click here<\/a> before October 26, 2018. We are hoping to have the group fully established and ready to start sometime in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will engage all members of the Carleton community and beyond to ensure that the process leading to our action plan creates spaces for meaningful dialogue and relationship building that will serve us well as we implement our recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like to thank Kahente, Benny and Jerry for being willing to steer this important process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
