\n Jerry Tomberlin appointed Provost and Vice-President (Academic)\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

Dear Colleagues,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am pleased to let you know that our Interim Provost and former Dean of the Sprott School of Business, Jerry Tomberlin, has been selected as the next Provost and Vice-President (Academic) of Carleton University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerry brings remarkable higher education understanding and experience to the role, in addition to vast institutional knowledge of Carleton and his exceptional human qualities. In particular, the Provost search committee emphasized his collegiality, loyalty, fairness and optimism, as well as his commitment to education and to Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mandate is for a five-year-term, renewable, and at Jerry\u2019s request it will be retroactive to his appointment as Interim Provost on July 1, 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being able to count on an experienced and strategic Provost will be critical over the next few years as we complete the renewal of the Carleton\u2019s decanal team, adjust to new fiscal realities, and develop our next Strategic Integrated Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerry\u2019s skills and expertise will also serve us well as we continue to enhance experiential learning opportunities for our students, complete the work of the Carleton University Indigenous Strategic Initiatives Committee (CUISIC) and prepare for the next round of Strategic Mandate Agreements with the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to joining the Sprott School of Business as Dean in 2008, Jerry held a variety of positions in the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University in Montreal, including Dean and Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, as well as External Affairs, Department Chair and Academic Director of the MBA program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has taught internationally at the University of Southampton in England, Baruch College of the City University of New York, and l\u2019\u00c9cole Sup\u00e9rieur des Sciences \u00c9conomiques et Commerciales in France. He has also been a member of the AACSB International Board of Directors and remains active as a member of the Business Accreditation Policy Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He holds an MA and PhD in Statistics from Harvard, a Master of Public Health in Biostatistics from Michigan, and a BS in Mathematics from Florida State. He has published many refereed articles and conference proceedings in the fields of data analysis, statistics, survey design and the impact of academic business research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerry has provided consulting services to a number of major corporations and organizations, including Clairol Canada, NASA, General Motors, Royal Bank of Canada, the U.S. Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs, Massachusetts Attorney General\u2019s Office, Statistics Canada, Bureau de la statistique du Qu\u00e9bec, and Transports Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
