Molly Joeck


Molly Joeck is a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia studying under the supervision of Professor Catherine Dauvergne. She recently completed a term as a visiting scholar at the Centre for Criminology at Oxford University under the supervision of Professor Mary Bosworth. Her dissertation research concerns the detention of migrant women in Canada, with a focus on the intersection of risk and gender in the immigration detention context. She is also involved in research projects on COVID-19 in the context of immigration detention and the intersection between indigenous rights and bordering in North America.

In tandem with her studies, she maintains a practice in immigration and refugee law with Edelmann & Co in Vancouver, Canada, with a focus on crimmigration and immigration detention. She currently has pending matters before both the Federal Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada.
