About the position:
The Department of Health Sciences at Carleton University is seeking applications for a tenuretrack faculty position in Public Health at the level of Assistant Professor beginning January 1, 2018. We welcome applications from qualified candidates with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds including (but not limited to) health promotion, preventive medicine, health evaluation, health economics, health policy and management, health ethic s and international development. Specific areas of focus include, but are not limited to maternal, family and community medicine, health of marginalized and vulnerable populations, gender and health, nutrition, and infectious disease.
Applicants must hold an MD or PhD in public health, global health, preventive medicine or other similar health-related discipline. The successful candidate must show potential or proven ability to develop a research program as an independent researcher, and will be expected to develop and maintain their research program by obtaining external competitive grant s (e.g., Tri-council funding) . Their research program is to include the generation of scholarly contributions to the scientific literature. He/she will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and be required to participate in the administrative work of the Department. This individual will play a prominent role in the department’s graduate program in Health: Science, Technology, and Policy (MSc HSTP, https://carleton.ca/healthsciences/hstp-2/) through: teaching interdisciplinary graduate courses, developing and supervising collaborative, community engaged group research projects, and fostering knowledge mobilization and translation activities.
As part of an interdisciplinary department, the successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate across disciplines and departments within the University and externally. The Department is building core strengths in three clusters of excellence: 1) Environment and Global Health, 2) Lifecourse Approach to Health and 3) Big Data. The new Health Sciences Building, slated for opening September 2017, will be the home base for the Department, with state-of-the-art infrastructure for both teaching and research in these health areas and beyond. The Department of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science have strong commitments to graduate and undergraduate education and research experiences. Interested candidates should submit: i) a CV detailing their experience in public health; ii) a descript ion of their current and proposed research program; iii) a statement on how they would contribute to the MSc HSTP program including their experience developing and leading collaborative and interdisciplinary research teams and projects, iv) and a statement of teaching philosophy including identifying which courses offered by the Department they would be interested in teaching.
