About the Position:
The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track appointment in Biomedical Engineering (ECE) at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2019.
We wish to hire an outstanding faculty member with a passion for teaching, and with expertise and dynamic research in the area of biomedical image processing. Candidates with expertise in other areas of biomedical engineering or image processing are welcomed to apply. The successful candidate is expected to create interdisciplinary collaborations within and external to Carleton (e.g., hospitals, industry, and government agencies) in research and teaching, and to provide excellent training opportunities.
Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching are invited to apply. Successful candidates would be expected to teach core and advanced biomedical engineering courses and (biomedical) image processing courses in undergraduate and graduate programs, and early-year courses offered in the department; supervise undergraduate capstone projects, Masters and PhD students; contribute to efforts in continuous curriculum improvement, accreditation, and quality assurance reviews.
We encourage applicants possessing leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills who are eager to build a strong, externally funded, visible, innovative, and internationally recognized research program in (biomedical) image processing to apply. We will consider favorably candidates with an interest in innovative teaching methods, in collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to scientific research, with aptitudes for building bridges with community, industry, and government agencies. Candidates are expected to value diversity and inclusivity, and help foster underrepresented groups into an engineering career.
About the Academic Unit:
The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (http://carleton.ca/sce/) is a research-intensive department and hosts a large and active community of faculty members, instructors, and undergraduate and graduate students. The Department participates in a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs covering the Electrical and Computer Engineering spectrum. The graduate programs are part of the Ottawa-Carleton Institutes for Electrical and Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. Full advantage is taken of the high concentration of industry, government, and university technology organizations in the Ottawa area.
At the time of appointment, candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. Candidates must show membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, or evidence that membership in such an association can be secured according to the accreditation criteria and procedures set by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
