About the Position:
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary tenure‐track appointment in Engineering specialized in Structural Analysis, Modelling, and Rehabilitation for Conservation of Historic Structures at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning July 1, 2021.
The candidate will have a strong background in civil or architectural engineering and possess a thorough understanding of the decision‐making processes of the conservation of historic structures, preferably within Canadian context. The candidate should possess a strong background in engineering theory and implementation of conservation techniques; and demonstrate sensitivity and knowledge with regards to structural analysis, modelling and simulation for rehabilitation of existing and historic structures. Necessary knowledge about historic assemblies and materials is required.

About the Academic Unit:
The Department offers dynamic, innovative, and cross‐disciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in Architectural Conservation and Sustainability, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. The Department has diverse expertise over a wide range of research areas in environmental, digital heritage recording, sustainability, conservation, fire safety, structural and transportation engineering. The undergraduate program Architectural Conservation and Sustainability is a unique Canadian specialization offered since 2012.
Graduate programs of the Department are offered through the Ottawa‐Carleton Institutes for Civil Engineering and for Environmental Engineering to provide further strength and opportunities. A graduate program on Building Engineering with a specialization in Conservation has been proposed.

Candidates must have a doctoral degree in civil or architectural engineering. They would have a demonstrated record of research excellence through high quality publications. The successful candidate will have a commitment to research and able to develop an externally‐funded, high quality research program; will be passionate about effective teaching with demonstrated or strong evidence of potential of teaching excellence; and contribute effectively to the academic life of the Department. Synergy to establish collaborative research links with the existing members of the Department and across the University is highly desirable. Work experience as a Conservation Engineer will be taken into consideration.
Membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required at the time of or within three years of appointment.
