Carleton has signed Memoranda of Agreement with both the Carleton University Academic Staff Association (CUASA) and CUPE 4600 Unit 2 that outline exceptional financial measures that will be made available for members of both academic unions. The measures provide financial support for members who may have incurred additional expenses during the transition to alternative modes of course delivery due to COVID-19.
Both MOAs have been agreed to without prejudice and without precedent to any position the parties may take in other future or similar proceedings.
Carleton will make a one-time deposit of $200 into the Professional Expense Reimbursement fund for each CUASA member by July 15, 2020 for eligible one-time expenses incurred as a result of implementing alternative modes of delivery required due to COVID-19.
Carleton will provide a payment of $125,000 to the Professional Development Fund for impacted and eligible employees to access for reimbursement of qualified expenses incurred related to teaching remotely (such as webcams, headsets, microphones, etc.) due to COVID-19. For Winter, Summer and Fall 2020 terms, the maximum reimbursement allowable under the Professional Development Fund will temporarily be increased from $900 to $1,100.
If you have questions about the details of these MOAs, please contact Amy Wyse, Director, Labour Relations (Academic) at amywyse@cunet.carleton.ca.
We would like to thank our colleagues in both academic unions for their collegiality in agreeing to these measures.
Sincerely,
Jerry Tomberlin Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
Lorraine Dyke Deputy Provost (Academic Operations and Planning)
