Librarian I, Librarian II, Librarian III, Librarian IV Hired under the provisions of the CUASA Collective Agreement, librarians at Carleton have a responsibility to provide services to library users as well as to engage in professional duties, public service, collection development, bibliographic control, and technical library operations. Chancellor’s Professors In accordance with the Carleton policy, Chancellor’s Professors, a professor with at least ten years of service at the rank of full professor whose scholarly activities have been and continue to be of outstanding merit with substantial international impact may be nominated by his/her academic unit or Faculty Dean in consultation. This is an internal appointment.
Professors Emeritus In accordance with the Carleton policy, Honourary and Affiliated Ranks, this permanent title is automatically conferred upon a full professor upon retirement in recognition and celebration of his/her accomplishments and contributions during his/her career at the University. This is an internal appointment.
Distinguished Research Professors In accordance with Carleton policy, Honourary and Affiliated Ranks, a professor emeritus who continues to be active in research work may be nominated by his/her academic unit for this position. This is an internal appointment.
Adjunct Research Professors In accordance with the Carleton policy, Honourary and Affiliated Ranks, a retired associate or assistant professor or an external appointee who has demonstrated significant scholarship and activity in research as well as continuing involvement in significant research activities at the University may be nominated by his/her academic unit for this position. Adjunct Professors In accordance with the Carleton policy, Honourary and Affiliated Ranks, a retired associate or assistant professor or an external appointee who has demonstrated significant involvement in the intellectual life of an academic unit, such as teaching or other projects, may be nominated by his/her academic unit for this position. Visiting Professors In accordance with the Carleton policy, Visiting Appointments, a visiting professor is normally on temporary leave from a permanent position at that university (if not retired); and (i) invited to teach at Carleton University in an area of established expertise; and/or (ii) invited to conduct research in collaboration with or under the supervision of a faculty member host at Carleton University in an area of established expertise. Visiting Scholars In accordance with the Carleton policy, Visiting Appointments, a visiting scholar is normally on temporary leave from a permanent position at another organization or institution and (i) invited to teach at Carleton University in an area of established expertise; and/or (ii) invited to conduct research in collaboration with or under the supervision of a faculty member host at Carleton in an area of established expertise. Appointments in Residence In accordance with Carleton policy, Appointments in Residence, an appointee in residence is an expert in his/her field and who is invited to Carleton, for a limited term, to enhance academic programs, mentor students, create and strengthen the University’s connection with the community, and bring a “real-world” perspective to the classroom.
