To All Members of the Carleton Community,
Wayne Jones has decided to conclude his appointment as University Librarian effective Dec. 31, 2019. Wayne will return to the MacOdrum Library as a Librarian after taking administrative leave.
Wayne joined Carleton in 2011 as Associate University Librarian for Collections and Library Development. In September 2014, he was named Interim University Librarian before he assumed the role of University Librarian in April 2015.
Under Wayne’s leadership, the MacOdrum Library has increased its collections budget, increased the number of library events and incorporated new technologies to continue to meet the changing needs of students. Wayne also undertook a major reorganization of the library’s front-facing services to make them more student-friendly and substantially improve and expand student study spaces. This included a reorganization of staff to support all programs and provide consistent service for students and faculty.
In addition to contributing to several university committees, Wayne served as chief negotiator for the 2017-2020 collective agreement with the Carleton University Academic Staff Association (CUASA). He served as chair of the Statistics Working Group of the Canadian Association of Research Libraries, and took on a leadership role with his colleagues across Ontario by serving as chair of the Ontario Consortium of University Libraries Executive Committee. Wayne also chaired the Steering Committee of the Collaborative Futures project in its early phases, contributing to the implementation next month of a collaborative resource discovery tool called Omni, involving 14 academic libraries across Ontario (including Carleton).
Effective Jan. 1, 2020, Amber Lannon will take on the role of Interim University Librarian until June 2020. Amber has held the position of Associate University Librarian (Academic Services) in the MacOdrum Library since July 2016. I am very grateful to Amber for stepping into this interim role until a University Librarian is appointed and I look forward to working with her in the months ahead.
We will form an advisory search committee shortly and engage a search firm to assist us with this search. There will be an opportunity for members of the Carleton community to participate in a consultation later in the search process.
On behalf of all my colleagues, I would like to thank Wayne for his contributions to Carleton University and for his leadership in advancing the MacOdrum Library through his commitment to improving and maintaining a positive and productive experience for all users. He has been a dedicated leader for the MacOdrum Library and I wish him a successful administrative leave.
Sincerely,
Jerry Tomberlin Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
